Mayor Blake Hankey called the Harwood City Council to order on July 6 and the council moved quickly to fill key posts and authorize law-enforcement support.
The council appointed Andrew Aakre of Moore Engineering as city engineer, Sarah Wear of Ohnstad Twitchell as city attorney and Chayla Hansen as city auditor. Councilmember Dick Sundberg was selected as council president. Each appointment passed on motions with seconds from councilmembers; the minutes record that all motions carried.
Councilmembers also voted to contract for a half-time deputy to serve municipal court functions. The motion to approve contracting for a half-time deputy was made by Councilmember Chris Higgins and seconded by Councilmember Chris Fix and was recorded as passed.
The appointments put named staff in place for engineering, legal and financial oversight; the deputy contract is intended to provide dedicated support for municipal-court operations. Council directed staff to proceed with the contracting process and bring any final contract paperwork to a future meeting for confirmation.
The council set its next regular meeting for Aug. 3 at 6:30 p.m. at City Hall.
