Staff briefs committee on planner recruitment, staffing loss and PEIA premium outlook

During the Oct. 27 Personnel Committee meeting staff provided several operational updates. She said the long-range planner position remains posted and the city plans to renovate the office prior to filling the role. Staff also reported the city lost employee Nathan Daniel to the Capitol Police and that the department expects to onboard replacements around January.
On benefits costs, staff said preliminary information from the Public Employees Insurance Agency (PEIA) suggests about a 3 percent premium increase for next year and noted PEIA will hold a local session in Martinsburg on Nov. 10 and a virtual session on Nov. 20; both sessions are recorded, staff said.
The remainder of the staff update was informal: committee members exchanged light remarks about a successful pumpkin contest and holiday activities. No formal actions were taken on recruitment or insurance items during the meeting.
