Members of the Westborough Council on Aging were briefed on community-center public engagement and the creation of a new nonprofit to support the project.
Senior Center staff (speaker 5) said staff and an architect attended a farmers-market outreach session where digital renderings and larger display boards were used to gather feedback. Upcoming engagement dates were listed: August 6 at the farmers market, an August 24 session at the senior center (3 p.m. tentative) and two September sessions at Forbes (September 14 and 21). The director asked residents to look at the renderings on display at the senior center.
Speaker 3 announced that the Westborough Community Center Foundation (WCCF) has been officially formed as a nonprofit (501(c)(3)). The foundation27s stated purpose is to raise awareness and funds for the community center. Members discussed coordinating communications, posting updated renderings, and approaching grant providers and local nonprofits. Speaker 4 and others noted that the foundation is not soliciting funds at council meetings.
Members credited Maureen Johnson (named in discussion) for help securing 501(c)(3) status and discussed posting foundation materials to town channels when the group finalizes a logo and mission statement. The council agreed to keep the board updated monthly on the foundation27s progress and to consider adding brief public-notice language about open forum availability to the town newsletter to boost participation in public meetings.
The council noted that the community-center financing and any ballot or formal town votes remain separate matters; the foundation is an outside nonprofit intended to provide supplemental fundraising and outreach support.
