Sterling awards 2026 street maintenance contract, targets curb repairs near W. Adams Avenue

On June 15 the Sterling City Commission awarded the construction contract for the City'9s 2026 street maintenance base-bid subprojects to Vance Brothers for $192,474. City Manager Ian Hutcheson said the City solicited bids with engineering assistance from Kirkham Michael and received a single responsive proposal from Vance Brothers. The two base locations are Monroe Street (S. 7th to S. 1st) and S. 1st Street (E. Jackson to E. Garfield).
Hutcheson recommended funding those base bids with the City'9s Special Street Fund and using remaining budget authority to address substantially deteriorated pavement and curbing on the north side of the zero block of W. Adams Avenue adjacent to the United Presbyterian Church, which also houses Lil'9 Cub Daycare. Preliminary contractor quotes estimate those localized repairs at about $40,000; staff said the parking is heavily used by church, daycare and Sterling Medical Center patrons.
Commissioner Todd Rowland moved to award the contract and authorize the Mayor to sign the notice of award; the motion carried 5-0. City staff will schedule the work and coordinate notices for any traffic impacts.
