Commissioners discuss voluntary payroll-deduction option to fund Veterans Memorial Park

The Ogemaw County Board discussed a proposal to allow county employees to voluntarily donate to a Veterans Memorial Park through payroll deductions for a limited time.
A commissioner described the concept as a voluntary, one-year program and suggested small per-pay contributions such as $2 or $5. "I think probably quite a few of our employees would be more than happy to take and support Veterans Memorial Park if they could do it through payroll deduction," a commissioner said. Staff explained the process would mirror existing United Way payroll deductions and that employees would submit a signed form to payroll indicating amount and timing.
Treasury/payroll staff said remittance could be handled biweekly or monthly and that the office can issue a check to the memorial fund after payroll runs. Commissioners agreed the program should be voluntary, limited to a 12-month maximum, and returned the item for a resolution and clear language to be drafted for next week’s meeting.
The board did not vote on the measure during this meeting; commissioners asked staff to prepare a draft resolution and fund-remittance form.
