Township reports road maintenance progress, new maintenance building nearly complete and fire-station bond planning

Administrator Audree Guzman presented the Road and Administration reports at the Nov. 12 Soldier Township Board meeting.
Guzman said that with roughly 85% of the year elapsed, approximately 76% of the road budget has been spent and 28 work orders remain open. October work focused on asphalt repairs completed before the asphalt plant closes for the winter. She said the road superintendent, John Tipton, has been preparing a tracking and grading system for township roads to support future planning. About 90% of snow removal equipment has been maintained.
Guzman reported that the new road maintenance building is in its final stages; approaches have been poured, yard backfill and grading to improve drainage have been completed, and final touches were expected in the third week of November. On broader facility planning, Guzman said draft legislative changes for a new fire station are under review with the Revisors and that a bond election will be required prior to the Nov. 2025 election; the board plans an RFP for a design/build team and estimates construction could begin in spring 2026. Administrative setup and training on the new gWorks accounting software will begin this month with full operation expected in early 2025.
