Committee outlines timeline and data needs for Nevada Title II three-year plan

Chair Carlson told the Planning & Development Committee on May 28 that the committee will take primary responsibility for developing Nevada’s Title II three-year plan, which the agenda lists with an effective date of Aug. 1, 2027, through July 30, 2030. “The goal of the 3 year plan is to identify gaps and come up with a plan,” Carlson said, adding that Title II funds must support evidence-based programs that fit the plan’s framework.

Carlson described the plan as a multi-step effort that will likely be divided into work groups to address core requirements, crime analysis, data needs and stakeholder engagement. He encouraged the committee to invite outside stakeholders to participate in work groups and suggested inviting the Office of Analytics to a future meeting to explain what data will be required. “It might be a good idea at our next meeting to invite someone from the Office of Analytics, because they're the ones that are going to supply a lot of our data,” Carlson said.

Commissioner Anderson and others recommended forming separate work groups to focus on data collection, training reports and survey review, and suggested reviewing model plans from other states as templates. Carlson said the committee could bring example plans (including a state plan noted as strong in Wisconsin) to a future meeting for discussion. The committee agreed to keep Title II planning and related work-group formation on upcoming agendas and to coordinate with the data and executive committees on required analyses.

Next steps: form work groups, invite the Office of Analytics and stakeholders, collect the data requested by the data committee, and develop a draft Title II three-year plan for committee review.
