Committee approves development of Title II formula grant priority-area survey

The Planning & Development Committee voted on May 28 to authorize development and distribution of a Title II formula grant priority-area survey to stakeholders across the state. Commissioner Carlson said the survey would list the 24 allowable Title II programs and ask stakeholders to identify their top three to five priorities. “What we would like to do is send out to the stakeholders, ask them to identify what they feel their priority needs are,” Carlson said.

Commissioner Flores moved that Carlson and committee volunteers draft the survey and distribute it to probation departments, service providers and other stakeholders; Carlson seconded the motion. The committee approved the motion by voice vote with no opposition or abstention recorded on the meeting transcript. Flores framed the vote as a step to gather stakeholder input the commission will use when assembling Nevada’s Title II three-year plan.

Committee members discussed logistics and timing. Carlson said the survey could be sent in June with a two-week response window so the Planning & Development Committee could review results in August and forward findings to the full commission. Members suggested the survey be simple—listing allowable programs and asking responders to choose top priorities—and that the committee invite input from probation departments and providers who serve youth.

Next steps: volunteers will draft the survey and the committee will confirm distribution lists and timelines. The committee expects to present compiled results to the full Commission in August or to the July planning meeting depending on response timing.
