Columbus City Council approves special-use permit for motorcycle rally, awards sidewalk bid and adopts capital-accounts resolution; defers soil-conservation app

Council members discussed an appointment to fill Position 1 (urban supervisor) on the Stillwater County Soil Conservation District. Meeting remarks noted three applicants existed earlier, that Ben Walker and Nate Jones had removed their applications and that an application for Doug Harrington remained. Several council members said they were not comfortable making the appointment that night and requested the city advertise for the openings. A staff speaker advised the council that without a formal motion there would be no action, and that the statute requires consultation with the district before an appointment. The council agreed to advertise the openings and seek district input; no appointment was made.
There were no comments off agenda, and the council adjourned following a motion to adjourn (moved by Dennis, seconded by Tim).
