Conrad council hears police, public works and library reports; discusses recycling and playground grant

The Conrad City Council received routine departmental reports during its Sept. 2, 2025 meeting.

Police Chief Cory Smith summarized August calls, assists and citations and said the department has received positive feedback on business security checks; he also noted officers are engaged in ongoing training and that two dogs remain in the city pound. Public Works Director Dave Zimbelman reported that the stormwater project has started, crews have been painting crosswalks and staff are researching new playground equipment; he said the city has applied for a grant to cover some playground costs, ordered splash-park rule signs and is evaluating a light that may require a pole replacement. Zimbelman also raised recycling cardboard as a topic for discussion and noted the city will appoint a Tree Board with assistance from DNRC. Library Director Tiffany Christensen said in-person visits in August were down while digital usage remains above prior levels and announced that new trustee Tim Lastowski received certification.

Finance Officer Jodi Rogers told the council she is finalizing accounting for July and August and that full numbers will be available at the next council meeting. Under other business, the council set a public hearing to consider increasing rates for the city’s solid-waste and sewer systems. The meeting adjourned at 6:40 p.m.
