RSU 18 board recognizes Mid‑Maine Technical Center students for state skills medals

The RSU 18 school board on March 1 recognized seven students who represented local high schools at the Mid‑Maine Technical Center state skills competition, naming multiple medalists and praising career‑technical education programs.

Superintendent (Superintendent) introduced the students and turned the floor over to Principal Scott Hallett, who identified student participants and medal winners. "We have Miss Samantha Stevens who received a silver medal for nurse assisting," Hallett said, and he also named Veil Gosselin (silver, emergency medical technician) and Neveah Harland (gold, emergency medical technician). He noted Matthew Reardon and Nathan Kirk competed in robotics urban search and rescue.

The superintendent said the district values CTE for the practical and postsecondary opportunities it creates: "I love the state's competition. I love the technical center. I've been a huge supporter of CTE, my entire career just because of the opportunities it gives to kids," he said, adding that dual‑enrollment credits can benefit students and their families.

Board members praised the students and the high‑school theater presentation that preceded the recognition. One member noted the program's role in building student confidence and parental involvement, saying the presentation left the room "bursting with energy." The extracurricular committee report also singled out Andrew Turner's work with drama students as a bright spot for the district.

The board offered public congratulations to the students and attendees before moving on to other agenda items.
