Council opens hearing on Stillwater Legacy Trails grant application

The Columbus City Council opened a public hearing on the Stillwater Legacy Trails project and heard an engineer’s report on a Transportation Alternatives grant application.
Derek Lehr, an engineer representing Derek Steak Engineering, told the council the application seeks MDT Transportation Alternatives funds to continue the Stillwater Lakes and Trails network, emphasizing connectivity and safety. "What we're looking at right now, if this grant is awarded, we'd be divided about $615,000 ... with Stillwater Legacy Trail providing the match," Lehr said, describing planned 5-foot sidewalks, curb and gutter, and connections from Pike Avenue and the east side of Corey Street to parks and schools.
Lehr said the project is intended to provide "connectivity to city parks" and "enhance public safety throughout the community," and described flexibility in routing through a park to link downtown to the school. He said the application would be submitted on April 9.
There were no public comments during the hearing and the council closed the public hearing. The project will return to council staff as needed for any required approvals associated with grant acceptance or matching funds.
