Clyde Park council approves Old Settlers Days permit and chicken-permit variance allowing up to 12 birds

The Town of Clyde Park council approved several local permits and a procedural change to its chicken-permit policy at the Aug. 12 meeting.
Council member Brian Eckenrod moved to approve a special-event permit for Old Settlers Days and to waive the permit fee; Council member Dave Sarrazin seconded and the motion passed.
On animal permitting, Council member Teresa Saari presented a proposed chicken-permit procedure: all chickens must be permitted; up to six chickens would carry a $15 fee and an additional $15 would apply for households registering seven to 12 birds, with a maximum of 12 chickens per household under the proposed variance. Council member Brian Eckenrod moved for the variance to allow up to 12 chickens on town lots; Council member Roger Chandler seconded and the motion passed. The council noted that town lots are typically 10,000 sq ft and that the existing code reads six chickens per 5,000 sq ft.
The planning board item for resident Richard Suisse (107 East 5th) requesting a lot split was discussed. Mayor Sydney Wiley reported the land is currently an outlot and that a one-to-two-parcel split qualifies as a minor subdivision under town code; the applicant must provide a survey showing each parcel meets the 20,000 sq ft outlot requirement. Council member Saari moved to table the Suisse application to the next meeting; Council member Brian Eckenrod seconded and the motion passed.
The consent agenda (July 2024 minutes, animal permits and site permits except Bruce Lay's RV hookup) was approved on a motion by Teresa Saari and seconded by Brian Eckenrod.
