Conrad council approves police promotions and payroll; promotion vote splits 3–1

The Conrad City Council on Aug. 8 approved promotions and raises for two police officers after debate over probation periods and approved the council's claims and payroll for the period.
A motion by Alderman Karla Breding, seconded by Alderman Carrie Doty, approved the promotion of Officers Cichosz and Cannady (promotion to Patrolman III) and accompanying pay raises; the motion passed 3–1. Alderman Darryl Burditt said he would prefer to wait a year, citing the officers’ probation periods; Aldermen Amber Schoenrock, Karla Breding and Carrie Doty voted in favor.
Earlier in the meeting the council approved minutes for the July 15 regular meeting and the July 23 special meeting (motion by Breding, second by Doty) and approved claims and payroll, which included listed claim ranges and a payroll amount of $157,178.34 (motion by Doty, second by Breding). Those procedural motions carried unanimously.
The council also approved the city's sponsorship of a community 'Guns and Hoses' baseball game, and adjourned at 6:40 p.m.
