The Columbus School Board approved several operational items in a single set of votes: a revised community gym/weight‑room policy, an updated student directory information and notification form, and personnel actions to add a volunteer/substitute coach.
Staff presented the community gym policy with revised hours (5:30 a.m.–9 p.m. seven days a week) and a proposed usage fee of $20 every six months for access to the weight room; staff also clarified the policy covers elementary, middle and high school gyms for residents unaffiliated with the district. Trustees discussed key implementation details such as key control, scheduling conflicts with school and extracurricular activities, and enforcement. The board approved the policy by voice vote.
The board also approved an updated student directory information and notification form (policy 36022). Staff said the form modernizes the district's directory opt‑out notification and clarified how directory information may be shared with military recruiters and post‑secondary institutions, while reminding parents of their opt‑out rights. The update was approved by voice vote.
On personnel, staff recommended adding Brandon (Britton) Beckett as a volunteer football coach for the high school season and adding Brandon Beckett to the substitute list. Trustees moved, seconded and approved those personnel actions by voice vote.
