At its Sept. 18, 2024 regular meeting, the Stratmoor Hills Sanitation District Board of Directors approved routine minutes and the meeting agenda and unanimously approved the August 2024 financial reports.
District Manager Kirk Medina reported on follow‑up work from the district’s 2023 audit and said the Water District has paid $96,114 in assessment payments related to 2022 and 2023 that had been owed to the sanitation district. Medina said additional audit adjustments remain to be completed and that he will update the board next month when those adjustments are expected to be finished.
The board also heard operations updates. Medina stated lift station maintenance was completed at all four district lift stations, a work effort the board was told improved reliability and reduced odors. Medina and Superintendent Nancy Lee Watkins reported that a College View sewer liner repair performed by Joe Frei Excavating proved more challenging than expected: banks down to the sewer main had to be stabilized and a road built to access the main, and the contractor worked nine days to finish the job.
Medina reported a separate sewer backup caused extensive damage to a home at 503 Loomis Avenue; an insurance claim has been filed and Medina said the damages should be covered. He also told the board that interest earned in district savings accounts is currently exceeding budget projections, noting that rates were about 5% earlier in the year and have declined slightly since then. Revenues and expenditures were described as on track for this time of year.
On planning, Medina said the draft 2025 budget is nearly complete and that he will deliver the proposed budget to each board member in advance of a budget workshop scheduled for Oct. 2, 2024, at 1:00 PM. He also invited board members to the Lower Fountain Water Quality Management Association annual meeting on Oct. 12 and said he will circulate an invitation.
Formal actions at the meeting included three routine approvals and adjournment. Director James Pesicka made each motion and Director Cindy Dent seconded them. The board’s recorded votes were unanimously in favor, 4‑0, for approval of the August 21, 2024 minutes; approval of the meeting agenda; and approval of the August 2024 financial reports. Pesicka then moved to adjourn at 3:20 PM; Dent seconded and the motion carried 4‑0.
The District Manager will return to the board next month with further audit adjustment details and the board will meet for the scheduled budget workshop on Oct. 2.
