Superintendent: busing eligibility distance will change; letters to families and summer events announced

Superintendent Anne Slush told the Elyria City School Board on July 15 that the district will send letters to families in the coming days about changes to busing eligibility, and that the walking/busing distance has been adjusted from 1.25 miles to 2.2 miles as part of the district’s reductions. She said the change ‘‘is still within the state minimums’’ and asked board members and staff to forward any parent emails or calls so administrators can follow up on individual hardships.
Slush also outlined several upcoming summer events and community outreach efforts: Touch the Truck on Aug. 1 (events beginning at 10 a.m.), the annual football community day at the stadium from 8 a.m. to noon, and a third‑Thursday PD event and interviews. She said final schedules and informational pieces will be distributed to families and staff.
The superintendent acknowledged the change could create challenges for some families and said the district will provide a process for parents to request help or accommodations.
