Whigham council hears utilities update, receives first SPLOST (2026) payment

The Whigham City Council received updates on utilities work and municipal finances at its June 9 meeting.
Utilities Director Josh Ausburn told the council that routine maintenance on water and sewer systems had been completed, that the city had received paving bids and hoped to begin paving in mid-July pending contract award, and that he had spoken with York Engineering about treatment-plant options for a sewer project. No contract award or bid amounts were provided during the meeting.
City Clerk Rachel Jenson reported that the first SPLOST (2026) payment had been received. With council permission she said she would open a new bank account to deposit SPLOST funds; no members objected to that step during the meeting.
The council did not take formal action to accept paving bids or to authorize a specific engineering contract at the June 9 meeting. The record shows direction for staff to obtain price estimates for traffic-calming measures at the request of Councilmember Joel Singletary.
