Applicant seeks variance to replace McDonald’s sign at 834 Cleveland Avenue

Jennifer Wolf, the applicant for case P2026V-001-06, asked the City of East Point on July 14 to approve a variance allowing a replacement monument-style sign at the McDonald’s located at 834 Cleveland Avenue.

Wolf told the virtual community zoning information meeting that the existing sign is a pole-mounted unit about 137.5 inches tall with a 21-square-foot cabinet and a stone base. She said GDOT’s planned roadway expansion requires relocation of the sign and that her proposed replacement would remove the arched topper, include a stacked-stone base and measure roughly 123.25 inches to the top of the new cabinet while keeping the cabinet area at 21 square feet.

The request targets a variance from the city’s sign regulations cited during the meeting. Wolf said the proposed sign would be smaller overall than the current nonconforming sign and that the design is intended to be more visually compatible with neighboring properties.

Staff displayed site photos and plan drawings during the presentation; city staff confirmed the application materials show the existing site plan and the proposed sign elevation. No public questions specific to this application prompted changes to the proposal during the meeting.
