Whigham Council approves Huds 5 alcohol license and two special-event permits

At its June 9 meeting the Whigham City Council unanimously approved an alcohol license for Huds 5 and granted special-event permits for a Cash and Carry farm swap (June 20) and a Whigham DDA Zero Turn Lawnmower Race (June 13). The Whigham City Council unanimously approved an alcohol license for Huds 5 and granted two special-event permits at its June 9 meeting.
City Clerk Rachel Jenson told the council the alcohol license application from the new owner of Huds 5, Ramzan Jasani, met the city's requirements. Robert Porter moved to approve the application; Jim Sellers seconded and all members present voted in favor.
Jenson also presented a special-event permit application from Tyler Akridge of Cash and Carry for a farm swap to be held June 20 on the fenced lot behind Huds. She said parking plans include Depot Street, City Hall and Cash and Carry's lot, and that Chief Black had indicated no extra patrol would be needed. Jim Sellers moved to approve the permit, Robert Porter seconded, and the motion passed unanimously.
Nick Farrell, representing the Whigham Downtown Development Authority, described plans for a Zero Turn Lawnmower Race at the Whigham School on June 13 at 6:00 PM. Farrell said vendors would be present, racing would take place on the field with the audience behind the fence, parking would use the school lot, and several volunteer firefighters and a firetruck would be on site in case of emergency. Councilmember Robert Porter moved to approve the event; Joel Singletary seconded and the council voted unanimously to approve.
Each approval was passed by a recorded motion and a unanimous vote of the members present: Mayor Trey Gainous, Mayor Pro Tem Jim Sellers, Robert Porter and Joel Singletary. The council did not require additional police staffing for these events, according to statements at the meeting.
The council did not attach additional conditions beyond the plans described in the applications. The meeting record does not show any objections or requested amendments to the permits.
