Task Force to notify businesses after compliance checks found underage sales

At the Anaconda-Deer Lodge County DUI Task Force meeting on April 16, Chair Morgan Smith reported that compliance checks conducted March 26 found many establishments sold alcohol to underage confidential informants. The Task Force agreed that Law Enforcement and the County Attorney’s Office will generate letters to notify those businesses of their performance and warn that criminal citations may follow future checks.
The Task Force also reviewed monthly enforcement figures. According to the report accepted by members, ADLC law enforcement issued five DUIs in March, three of which were carried out by Trooper George Nassour of the Montana Highway Patrol. Smith said the group recorded five minor-in-possession (MIP) citations in March; members voted unanimously to accept the enforcement report.
No criminal citations were issued from the March compliance checks, the minutes state. Smith characterized the planned letters as formal notice intended to deter future sales to minors. The Task Force did not take additional enforcement action at the meeting.
The group set its next meeting for May 14, 2026, when members plan to continue reviewing enforcement data alongside a proposed amendment to the Task Force plan.
