District says maintenance building, press box and parking work are moving forward despite schedule delays

At the Pequot Lakes Public Schools board meeting, Superintendent Kurt Stumpf gave a status update on facilities projects the district has told voters it would complete, including a new maintenance building, a high-school office conversion and work at the transportation building and middle school.

"We're in the design phase for some items that are listed there," Stumpf said, and added that the current maintenance building is where the new early-childhood space is planned, prompting the district to relocate maintenance to a newly purchased parcel (the "pink garage" property) behind the school. "The bids on July 30 will come in for the building of that new space," he said.

Board members asked whether projects were on schedule. Stumpf said the district is "a little bit behind schedule on both sites," but emphasized, "we'll open up school. Kids will be here." He warned that some doors and outdoor spaces would not be available immediately — "we're not gonna have doors 3 or 4 available" — and described temporary routing through Door 1 and the main hallway.

Stumpf said the district hopes to complete a parking lot this summer and keep the temporary garage in place through construction. The facilities update also noted deferred-maintenance items identified in an EagleView assessment; Finance Director Heidi Hagen later told the board the ten-year plan itemizes specific equipment and elements (for example, air-handler units and specified doors) across the next decade.

The board did not delay approval of the accompanying 10‑year maintenance resolution and adopted the resolution during the same meeting.
