Public works director reports street sweeping, pool pump repair and Centennial Street utility work

Kennedy reported crews replaced sweeper brooms and set a sweeping schedule intended to cover Main Street weekly with neighborhood sides on alternating days. He said the seasonal pool required a rapid pump replacement after the main pump failed the pool’s second day of operation; staff replaced the pump within hours and are addressing remaining operational issues.
Kennedy described preparatory work for sewer replacement and water service installation on Centennial Street: trees were removed by Heartlind Tree Service and City staff salvaged and saved plants for later replanting. Schumacher Excavating Inc. is scheduled to install the water and sewer service lines the week of June 16. In Riverside Park, crews removed four tree stumps from the playground area and the city plans to procure and plant four small‑stature trees. Kennedy also reported painting of hydrants on Main Street and 2nd and 3rd Avenues, mowing and trimming along state highways and utility poles, and the upcoming installation of a new garbage container and pet waste bag dispenser at the Prairie Ridge Estate park shelter.
Kennedy said barricades were placed at the informal route through the undeveloped Emerald Valley II portion near the proposed 3rd Street East to close the path to vehicle access until proper road infrastructure is developed; coordination with property owners informed that decision.
The council did not take action on these operational items at the meeting; they were presented for information and implementation by Public Works staff.
