North Penn High School renovation advances this summer; temporary classrooms planned around July 4

A presenter for North Penn SD said construction crews began immediate interior demolition at North Penn High School the first Monday after students left for summer break, removing doors, lockers, ceilings and casework as the renovation moves into a busy summer phase.

The presenter said environmental abatement of windows and floor tile in a single pod is the next major phase, describing it as a carefully planned step to prepare the building for further renovations and additions.

Outside work is also underway on the future A Pod addition. "Crews are installing new stormwater infrastructure, while masonry teams continue constructing the new elevator shaft and fire rated separation walls," the presenter said, and added that waterproofing and foundation work are progressing as the structure takes shape.

The presenter said the connector between A and H Pods is becoming visible and that crews are forming a new boiler room and facilities areas that will link the renovated spaces.

Renovations in K Pod continue on the first floor, and demolition has begun in the administrative offices and nurses' suite, the presenter reported. Preparatory work is underway for an underground oil separator tank and related utilities.

Because APOD will be closed, the presenter said additional temporary classrooms are scheduled to be built in the library area, with construction expected to begin around July 4.

On project procurement, the presenter stated that bid pack 1 is nearing completion and bid pack 2 is proceeding at full speed, and summed up that each day this summer brings another step forward in transforming the high school for future students.
