Superintendent Zipporah introduced Alves to the board, noting that he earned a bachelor's degree from the University of Maine at Farmington with a major in social studies and a minor in mathematics and special education, that he completed student teaching at Mount Blue Middle School and Mesolonsky High School and that he currently serves at Mesolonsky as a long-term substitute and runs the Dungeons and Dragons club. Board members praised his special-education coursework and classroom rapport.
A motion to appoint Alves was moved and seconded; following brief remarks in support from multiple board members the vote was called and announced as unanimous. The chair welcomed Alves; the superintendent noted retirees (Lisa Wrigley) who will be recognized.
