Envision 2030 update: district shows progress on Northside, Schmitt, Smith, Maple Grove and career-tech expansion

The presentation highlighted Northside Middle School (south-side renovations, administrative and wellness area work), Schmitt Elementary (final phase including a new staff/visitor parking configuration and a nearly completed STEM lab), and Smith Elementary (new administrative and library areas created from a former courtyard). "This is a financial synopsis... overall, we're trending to the good about $1,400,000 between what was budgeted and what we've actually committed through contract," Dr. Bozeman said.
Mynette walked the board through project-level details: framing and metal studs at Mount Healthy-related work, prefinished panels and roof decking at Maple Grove, and concrete and parking-line work across other sites. He also described smaller improvements such as concrete ramps at the enrollment center, painting and flooring, ADA adjustments and security enhancements.
Board members raised practical questions about the timing and logistics of projects that intersect city work. When asked whether 27th Street will be complete for school start, Dr. Bozeman said the city contractor's contract specifies completion in front of the school by the start of school, though not every block of 27th Street will be finished at that time. "We work closely with the city on these projects," he said, and promised follow-up on crossing-guard or CPD presence for extra safety.
Board members also asked how redistricting and capacity adjustments will be handled as Southside is reconfigured and new facilities open; administration said redistricting and a district/facilities committee process will guide fall and winter community feedback.
What happens next: administrators said they will continue construction coordination with the city, provide more detailed timelines to the facilities committee this fall, and include redistricting discussions and public feedback sessions later in the year.
