The city recognized Parks, Arts, Recreation and Community Services accomplishments — maintaining 300+ acres of turf, nearly 1.7 million square feet of facilities and more than 4,300 trees — and asked the council to proclaim July as 'Parks Make Life Better Month.' Assistant director Victoria Arena highlighted programming and the city’s arts collection and asked the council to join statewide recognition.
Separately, Lancaster Police Department manager Christine Malta outlined a proposed application for a CHP cannabis tax fund grant and asked for authority to accept awards up to $447,661, if awarded. Staff said the proposed program would allocate roughly 65% of funds to enforcement and 35% to education, supporting DUI checkpoints, saturation patrols, youth engagement events and dispensary point‑of‑sale education. Council asked questions about program percentages and requested a breakdown before final acceptance.
