Stokes County board signs off to file NCDPI five-year facility needs study with DPI

Roberts told the board the software’s output is an estimate for planning and that the district cannot budget directly from those numbers. He also noted that one school was omitted from the dataset because it was not added to the state system in time for this cycle.
Board members clarified the statutory role of signatures. Roberts explained the requirement that both the Board of Education and the county commissioners sign and certify that they received and reviewed the study under General Statute 115C-521 A, but that those signatures do not constitute agreement with the calculations or a commitment to perform the work.
The board approved moving the item to action and then approved the submission by voice vote. The motion did not include a roll-call tally in the transcript.
Next steps: the district will obtain signatures and forward the NCDPI report to the county commissioners as required by statute; the figures included in the DPI report are for statutory compliance and will be refined if the district pursues specific projects.
