City audit cleared by state; online utility portal launched as council reviews finances

City Auditor Tabitha Arnaud reported that the North Dakota State Auditor’s Office approved the City of Kindred’s 2023–2024 audit on March 9, 2026. Auditor Arnaud told the council that work with auditors (Brady Martz) on 2025 financials is underway with a goal to finalize in May.
Arnaud also reported that the city’s Banyon utility billing system completed two meter-reading and billing cycles; late fees were waived in February and March but will resume in April. The city launched an online payment portal on March 19, 2026; 110 of 430 accounts had registered and 90 accounts were signed up for autopay as of the meeting.
Council members received an update on City Hall improvements (kitchen cabinets installed; ongoing electrical, HVAC and finishing work) and on the employee handbook (first draft received). CM Peraza said he will recommend paying off the pool loan early after the 2025 financials confirm available reserve balances (less than $300,000 remaining on the loan was reported). The council was also reminded that the filing deadline for 2026 election candidates is April 6 at 4 p.m.
