Kindred council accepts 2023–2024 audit after auditors note improved cash reconciliation

Widmer Roel auditors presented Kindred’s 2023–2024 audit and the Kindred City Council voted unanimously to accept the report.
Auditors Craig Hashbarger and Jonathan Worrell told council the report contained seven findings similar to prior years but highlighted that the unreconciled cash difference in 2024 was substantially smaller than in earlier years. Worrell said the city’s work to bring audits current was notable, calling it “phenomenal work to accomplish eight years of audit reports within about eighteen months.”
City Auditor Tabitha Arnaud and council members discussed next steps to close out the financial record: finalizing 2025 financial statements with Brady Martz, passing a resolution to accept 2025 balances, and implementing a new fund-accounting software retroactive to Jan. 1, 2026. Widmer Roel indicated it can begin 2025 audit work in June.
The council approved a motion to accept the 2023–2024 audit as presented. The vote was recorded and the motion carried. The acceptance will allow staff to proceed with finalizing balances and integrating the new accounting system.
