The Killdeer City Commission on Jan. 5 accepted a Back the Blue Grant for $19,736.85 intended for officer retention and approved distribution of $2,819.55 to each Killdeer police officer. Police Chief Jonathan Avalos presented the grant details and discussed other grant opportunities, including D.A.R.E. with School Resource Officer Chantel Swigart.
Commissioners also approved a $33,483.14 quote from Midwest 911 Cars to outfit the 2025 Chevy Tahoe police squad vehicle. Separately, the commission voted to move Police Chief Jonathan Avalos from Step 5 ($97,715.28) to Step 6 ($100,158.16) on the city's pay schedule after Fenstermaker reported that Avalos completed his introductory period and had displayed outstanding performance.
All police-related motions carried on unanimous roll-call votes. The minutes do not record how many officers will receive the per-officer disbursement, only the dollar amount per officer.
