The Tucker County Schools board approved routine business and personnel recommendations and adopted a required update to the district wellness policy during its meeting.
The board approved the consent agenda by a recorded 5–0 vote. The superintendent recommended two professional hires—Leah Finney as a long-term substitute music and band teacher (countywide) effective 12/02/2025 and Angela Downs as an English teacher at Tucker County High School beginning 01/05/2026—and the board approved those recommendations. The superintendent also recommended extracurricular appointments (including an assistant girls volleyball coach and several ticket takers) and a 12-week Family and Medical Leave request for Casey Hoffer; the recorded motions for those items were approved in the meeting record.
On policy, staff presented an update to wellness policy 8510. The change adds the required sentence that "free drinking water shall be available to students during designated meal plans," language staff said had to be included for an upcoming child nutrition review. Board members asked practical questions about water fill stations and fountains—whether fill stations are connected to fountains and whether any fountains are nonfunctional—and staff said they would check site-specific conditions.
Board members also reviewed a replacement/update to policy 5722 (student journalism/media). Staff explained how policy templates and updates arrive from the vendor Neola and that the district must adopt updates actively; members asked that both the revised and the short versions be included in materials so they can see what was removed or retained.
No controversial or contested votes were recorded; most routine motions passed unanimously as recorded in the transcript. The board confirmed calendar items, set the next regular meeting for December 15 and adjourned.
