Wheeling CCSD 21 reports steady kindergarten counts, introduces London Middle assistant principal

The Wheeling CCSD 21 board on July 16 received an enrollment update from Louis Roberts and learned the district currently has 538 kindergarten students districtwide and has opened an additional kindergarten section at Field to accommodate demand.
Roberts said districtwide sections remain within guidelines and that, where necessary, administrators are balancing middle-school schedules by hand. "Right now, total for kindergarten in the district is 538 for total enrollment for kindergarten right now," he said, adding that Field’s kindergarten counts required adding another classroom and that the district will repurpose existing space to fit that section.
Board members asked about classroom availability and whether buildings might need to be closed to incoming students; administration said Kilmer is the only building where they might anticipate needing to take extraordinary space actions but that, at present, there is sufficient flexibility across the district.
The board approved the consent agenda by unanimous roll-call vote; that consent agenda included the approval of a new assistant principal for London Middle School. "So I’d like to introduce her. We have Miss Jessica Raizer," Louis Roberts said, describing Raizer’s four years as an assistant principal in West Chicago, experience supporting special education, and Spanish fluency. The board welcomed Raizer following the consent vote.
During the meeting the administration also reported the map design community survey closed with 737 responses; Dr. Connolly said Scenario A remained the community’s preferred scenario but that the committee will consider modifications based on feedback before formal recommendations to the board.
Other operational notes included a discussion about school kits: board members raised that many supplies returned unopened last year and staff said the district has been inventorying kits and is scaling back packages while redirecting funds to teacher-driven building needs.
The board set its next regular meeting for Aug. 20, 2026, at 7 p.m., and adjourned at 7:59 p.m.
