Architect and owner to return July 16 as Westwood commission reviews exterior work at 63 Jefferson Ave

Members of the Borough of Westwood Historic Preservation Commission reviewed ongoing designation work and recorded follow-ups for a Certificate of Appropriateness request at 63 Jefferson Ave at their June 18 meeting.
Lou Scheideler acknowledged the attendance of architect Stephanie Pantale (70 Chestnut Ridge Road, Suite K, Montvale, NJ) and owner Mirek Slusarczyk in the meeting record and said the commission had received siding samples on June 17, 2026. Scheideler noted that Pantale and Slusarczyk plan to attend the July 16, 2026 HPC meeting for further review; he also said he would forward a 2025 resolution relevant to the property to the architect and owner.
Separately, the commission listed several designation projects in progress, including Veteran’s Memorial Park (bandstand/structures/landscape), the Pascack Movie Theater and the Westwood Train Station, and circulated a list of candidate sites for future designation (the Diner/1950s Originals site; Conrad’s Confectionery; Fireman’s Memorial Park; Westwood Library at 49 Park Ave; Grace Episcopal Church; Berkeley Elementary School; Volz Hardware building; Bogert Built Furniture/office building at 19/25 Boulevard; and 45 & 47 Park Ave.). Jackie Martin was assigned to communicate with a trolley company about a Trolley Tour tied to Bergen 250th activities.
The minutes record contact attempts with T. Adriance to request reports for Veteran’s Memorial Park and Pascack Movie Theater; the commission asked members to review the historic properties list when considering sites for future designation. No formal determinations or votes on designations were recorded at this meeting.
