Valley Central School District Board President called the board to order and the board approved a series of routine agreements and personnel items during its July 20 meeting, then moved into executive session to discuss a confidential student matter.
The board approved agreements to host student teachers with SUNY Oswego and SUNY New Paltz and voted to enter an intermunicipal agreement with the Village of Montgomery for school resource officer services for the 2026–27 school year. The board also approved a contract with Richard Hahn for psychiatric evaluations for the 2025–26 school year and the human resources representative reported a recommendation to hire seven teachers.
"I only have 1 thing to report tonight, and that is that we are recommending 7 teachers for hire tonight," the human resources representative said during the meeting. The approvals were moved and seconded on the record and were carried by voice vote; no individual roll-call tallies were given on the public record.
Two walk-on items were presented and approved. The board read a resolution to affirm the superintendent's decision to suspend student number 072026-1 following a superintendent's hearing under Education Law §3214. The board then modified a reorganizational item to appoint Marie E. Preschke as tax collector for the towns of Montgomery and New Windsor with a 1% collection fee for the 2026–27 school year; both motions were moved, seconded, and carried.
After completing business, the board adjourned the public session and went into executive session "to discuss a student matter" and "a discussion with the attorney," the president said, noting there would be no further action when the board reconvened. The meeting had been streamed on the district's YouTube page.
The board listed the policy items on its website and scheduled first-readings for vote at the Aug. 17 meeting.
