The board discussed legal and fiscal implications. Vice Chair Bender asked about the board's existing authority and limits on banning dispensaries in business areas; the town attorney said local bans on medical dispensaries have been in place and that outcomes after a statewide vote were uncertain. Mister Daniels warned members to consider tax-revenue effects, noting that in some states “if one city has dispensaries and another city doesn't, the one that doesn't doesn't get any tax revenue.”
Members also referenced the locality's prior distance-based limits, saying earlier rules had restricted dispensaries from certain sites—one speaker recalled a roughly 1,200-foot setback from town parks under a prior ordinance enacted around 2014.
