Ely accepts $654,793 NDOW subgrant to finish Steptoe Valley Trap hunter education building

The Ely City Council voted unanimously on May 14 to accept Nevada Department of Wildlife Subgrant #SG26-10, a $654,793 award to complete the Steptoe Valley Trap, Skeet & Target Club (SVTS) Hunter Education Building. The SVTS and the City of Ely will provide a combined $72,755 in cash and in-kind match.
City Clerk Jennifer Lee told the council the City submitted an $80,000 Green Up grant amendment recently and confirmed the NDOW agreement had been reviewed by the city attorney and building official. City Building Official Chris Flannery signed off on the SVTS’s match plan to complete finishing work.
Scott Laity of the Steptoe Valley Trap, Skeet & Target Club told the council the project has community support and will benefit school hunter-education programs, archery activities and club events: “We have been working on this for what seems like forever,” he said, and invited council members to the building opening once it is complete.
Councilman Dennis Perea moved to accept the subgrant; Councilwoman Melody Van Camp seconded. The motion carried unanimously.
