Principal: Harassment, intimidation and bullying incidents low in Jan—Jun 2025 window, restraints and suspensions tracked

Middle-school principal Meg O'Mara presented the Student Safety Data System (SSDS) report covering Jan.—Jun 2025 for both the elementary and middle schools.
O'Mara said the SSDS collects incidents of violence, vandalism, harassment/intimidation/bullying (HIB), weapons and substance offenses, restraint, seclusion, and any other incident that leads to a student being removed from school. For the reporting window she gave these counts: - Elementary: 3 HIB incidents (2 unsubstantiated, 1 substantiated), 0 incidents of restraint reported, 5 out-of-school suspensions, and one program (Second Step) noted. - Middle school: 1 HIB report (not substantiated), 5 incidents of restraint, 12 out-of-school suspensions, and the Second Step program reported.
O'Mara noted SSDS reporting is required by state and federal rules and that the district uses comparisons year to year to guide improvements. Board members thanked her for the report and noted the low number of out-of-school suspensions as a positive trend.
Why it matters: SSDS data are used to monitor safety and compliance with reporting requirements and to target interventions where needed. The board discussed publicizing effective programs and practices that appear to reduce suspensions.
