The Hardyston Township Board of Education recognized fourth-grade teacher Holly Roman at its Sept. 9 meeting after the New Jersey Science Convention named her the 2025 Anton Benko award recipient for elementary science teaching.
Board members praised Roman’s approach to hands-on STEM learning and community-connected projects, and noted that the award includes a $2,000 grant to support science instruction and an invitation to the convention in October. "Holly's 4th grade classroom is a place where science is never just a subject, but a way of thinking," one trustee said.
Roman, who said she has spent three decades teaching in the Hardyston community, thanked colleagues, families and students and described the district as her home. Trustees congratulated Roman and noted the recognition as a point of pride for the district.
