Wakulla Community Theatre seeks unlimited school access; local promoters plan shows at SHS auditorium

Mina Sutton of Wakulla Community Theatre asked the Sopchoppy City Council on Feb. 9 for unlimited access to the school for theatre productions for a $10,000 annual fee. Sutton said WCT has shows scheduled in May, September and December.
Council members asked City Attorney Dan Cox to draft a rental proposal for consideration at the March meeting. Rick Ott told the Council he is interested in booking entertainment shows in the SHS auditorium—either for a flat rate or on a sliding scale—and said he will coordinate schedules with WCT if that group’s proposal is approved. Ott told the Council he hopes to host a bluegrass event on April 25, 2026.
Council discussed whether alcohol sales would be permissible; staff indicated any alcohol service would likely have to comply with the same insurance and policy terms used for historic gym rentals. Ott received a copy of the fee schedule and was told to return to Clerk Schilling with a formal proposal.
Next steps: Attorney Cox will draft a proposal related to WCT rental for the March meeting; promoters and WCT will submit formal proposals for Council consideration.
