Interested buyer allowed to inspect SHS library building; Council flags rezoning and bidding questions

Craig Steinle told the Sopchoppy City Council on Feb. 9 that he is interested in placing a business in the library building located on the SHS property and estimated repairs would cost between $20,000 and $30,000.
Vice‑Mayor Edwards said the property would need to be surveyed, subdivided and re‑zoned before private use could proceed, and Mayor Leonard Tartt asked whether the property would have to be offered to the public. Councilman Lewis asked whether the property could be sold without bids. Attorney Dan Cox was present during the exchange and the Council directed staff to pursue an appraisal, inspection and survey to be performed by March; Edwards amended her motion to allow the interested party to arrange and pay for the inspection. The amended motion passed 5–0.
Mr. Steinle told the Council he would pay for the inspection. The Council did not decide whether a sale or lease would occur, nor did it set a price; counsel and staff were asked to clarify procedural requirements such as subdivision, rezoning and any public‑offering obligations before the matter returns to the Council for further consideration.
