Sopchoppy Council approves routine minutes, sponsorships and inspection for SHS property

The Sopchoppy City Council approved several routine motions and sponsorships during its Feb. 9 meeting, and unanimously authorized an inspection and appraisal related to potential private use of the SHS library building.
Mayor Leonard Tartt called the meeting to order at 6:30 p.m. and the Council voted 5–0 to approve the Jan. 12, 2026 minutes. The Council also approved a $200 sponsorship renewal presented by Abbigail Lawhon for Wakulla High School softball (motion by Vice‑Mayor Edwards, seconded by Councilman Lewis, 5–0) and a $500 sponsorship for Wakulla Christian School softball requested by Bobby Guyer (motion by Lewis, seconded by Edwards, 5–0).
On a separate motion concerning city property at the SHS site, Vice‑Mayor Edwards moved to proceed with an appraisal, inspection and survey to be performed by March; Edwards later amended that motion to permit the interested party to arrange and pay for an inspection. The amended motion was seconded by Lewis and passed 5–0.
The meeting also included nonbinding administrative actions: the Council approved financial adjustments by signature and agreed to a change in Fourth of July parade hours. The meeting adjourned at 7:33 p.m. on a 5–0 motion by Edwards, seconded by Mayor Tartt.
