Archdale board backs zoning ordinance updates on pedestrian access, lighting and parking

The Archdale Planning and Zoning Board unanimously recommended amendments to the city’s Zoning Ordinance during its March 2 meeting.
Planning Director Jason Miller and Vagn Hansen of Benchmark Planning summarized proposed changes to Article 6, which focus on public infrastructure improvements, pedestrian access and outdoor lighting, and to Article 8, which addresses bicycle parking standards, alternative parking plans and off-street loading.
Board member Brent Kinney suggested the alternative parking provisions be written to explicitly allow flexibility for bicycle parking requirements when appropriate; Bob Kollm asked how enforcement of deferred parking would function. Hansen said an alternative parking plan could include threshold and enforcement conditions and that failures to meet conditions would be handled through the ordinance’s enforcement procedures. No members of the public spoke for or against the amendment during the public hearing.
Kinney moved to recommend approval of the text amendment with the suggested clarification; Kollm seconded. The motion passed unanimously.
