Committee votes to remove permitted streetlight on Windsor Place after resident complaints

The Waukesha City building and grounds committee unanimously approved removal of a permitted streetlight on Windsor Place during its May 4 meeting after aldermanic referral and neighborhood complaints about light shining into windows.
Darren, the staff member presenting the item, said the light was originally installed at a dead end to deter dumping. "So it's just a removal of that permitted light now and is no cost to the city with the removal of that item," he said.
The staff presentation noted recent development on the north side of Summit created a new public connection so Windsor Place now leads into the new Winterberry Drive extension; that change reduced the need for the light's original anti-dumping purpose. The chair said Alderman Rick Lemke contacted him about the issue and that Lemke "is obviously in favor of removing it." Committee members asked no additional questions.
The chair moved to remove the light at Windsor Place and Maple Way North; Everett seconded. The committee approved the removal by voice vote with no recorded oppositions or abstentions.
Staff said the removal will not incur a cost to the city and provided no additional conditions at the time of the vote. The committee then continued the agenda.
