The Questa Independent Schools Board of Education approved several contracts and budget actions during its regular meeting on Aug. 21, and raised the superintendent's purchase approval limit to $5,000.
Board President Jason Rael and two other board members voted to approve an attorney-client agreement with the law firm Singleton Schreiber, a speech therapy contract with Hurtado (pending verification of the GRT amount), and a 2024-2025 activity bus contract that the board amended to require two activity drivers on every trip and to include breach and cancellation provisions.
The approvals came alongside routine finance business. The board approved Budget Adjustment Request BAR 2425-0001-D and voted to approve a pre-approval requisition for vendor Dragon Fly. Member Michael Cordova moved to increase the superintendent's delegated purchase threshold to $5,000, a motion seconded by Vice President Jose Lovato and approved on a roll call vote recorded as aye by Cordova, Lovato and Rael.
Superintendent John Maldonado introduced guests and presented a certificate recognizing Chevron for assistance with school projects. The board discussed uniform rotation but took no action on that item.
The board recorded motions and roll-call votes for the items above; all motions noted in the meeting minutes that were called for roll call were recorded as carried with the voting members present voting aye. The meeting adjourned at 10:04 p.m.
