Questa Independent Schools board approves donations, onsite flu clinic and new monthly meeting schedule

The board accepted a $12,648 donation from the LOR Foundation to fund climate control in the Questa High School gym and approved snack donations for after‑school tutoring from ENTACT and a $500 gift from Chevron. Vice President Jose Lovato moved to accept ENTACT’s donation; Secretary Esequiel Romero seconded. Member Juan Cisneros moved to accept Chevron’s $500 donation; Secretary Romero seconded. Both donations were approved unanimously.
The board also approved an onsite flu shot clinic to be hosted by Questa Health Center; the motion carried 4–1 with Member Cisneros recording the sole vote against. Member Cisneros moved approval of BAR 2425‑0004‑IB; after a roll call Secretary Romero voted no and the BAR passed 4–1.
President Jason Rael moved to amend policy B‑1400 BE to set regular board meetings to once per month on the third Wednesday; the motion passed 3–2. The board approved pre‑approval requisitions for purchases over $5,000, including School for the Blind, Cream Land, Shamrock and Lowe’s, after motions by Secretary Romero and seconds by Vice President Lovato.
Why it matters: The donations earmarked for student supports and a gym climate control retrofit provide immediate material resources to district programs and facilities. The monthly meeting schedule change alters how the board will conduct oversight and public engagement going forward.
