Union City Borough Council on Sept. 16 advanced several administrative and regulatory items: it authorized advertising an amendment to the tenant-registration ordinance, approved technical and substantive amendments to parking and zoning ordinances, approved a tax exoneration for a property purchased by the Land Bank, and set trick-or-treat hours for Oct. 31.
Borough Manager Cindy Wells described the proposed tenant-registration amendment, which would allow the borough to charge repeat violators more than once per year if they fail to provide required information; Councilor Steadman moved to advertise the amendment and Councilor Osborn seconded the motion, which carried unanimously.
Council approved advertised amendments to Parking Ordinance 1137 to tighten restrictions on unlawful and disabled vehicles and to amend schedules I, II and IV (motion by Steadman, seconded by Osborn). Council also approved amendments to Zoning Ordinance 1118 to define and regulate permitted use zones for redemption games ("games of skill") and to add section 701.04 concerning accessory structures on adjoining lots (motion by Kerns, seconded by Steadman). All motions carried unanimously.
Council voted to approve a tax-exoneration resolution for 121 East High, in the amount of $5,563.49, after the Land Bank purchased the property; the motion was moved by Councilor Kerns and seconded by Councilor Steadman and carried unanimously. The council also approved borough trick-or-treat hours for Thursday, Oct. 31, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
During public comment, Bev Ballog of Hometown Heroes thanked the borough for its support; Council President Riley Cross reiterated that the borough is not connected to Hometown Heroes but is supportive of its cause. Mayor Robert Wolf praised the police department for recent work during the meeting.
