Portal approves 2025 preliminary budget, sets Oct. 1 budget hearing

The Portal City Council approved the 2025 Preliminary Budget at its Aug. 6 meeting and set the public budget hearing for Oct. 1, 2024.
Councilor Lorie Fitchner moved to approve the 2025 Preliminary Budget as presented; Councilor Tamara Rudland seconded. The motion carried with “all in favor,” according to the minutes. The council set the budget hearing date for the Oct. 1 monthly meeting so the public may review and comment on the proposed spending plan.
The council also discussed 90-day delinquency notices and noted that one resident would have utilities shut off for nonpayment. The minutes list bills for June and July (itemized by vendor and amount) that were entered into the record.
Next steps: the council will hold the Oct. 1 budget hearing and continue routine financial oversight.
