Chickasaw County approves up-to-$90,000 vehicle purchase for sheriff’s office

The Chickasaw County Board of Supervisors on July 20 approved a motion allowing the sheriff’s office to purchase a replacement patrol vehicle not to exceed $90,000, including upfitting.
Sheriff Grant Shaffer told the board two vehicles in his fleet have very high mileage and rising maintenance costs and requested permission to replace the K‑9 Durango first and stagger replacements to control future budget impacts. “It’s not asking any more tax dollars. It’s just reinvesting what’s already gonna get back,” the sheriff said.
Supervisor Steve moved to approve a vehicle purchase not to exceed $90,000; Supervisor Isaac seconded. The motion carried after board discussion about sale of older vehicles and options for full‑size pickups versus SUVs.
Next steps: sheriff’s office will proceed with procurement and report back on timing and disposition of replaced units.
