Chickasaw County’s Board of Supervisors voted July 20 to raise the county mileage reimbursement rate to 73¢ per mile, effective Aug. 1, 2026.
The change followed staff and supervisor discussion about a recent IRS increase in the federal mileage rate to roughly 76¢ per mile. A county speaker noted the board’s prior policy of setting a local rate slightly below IRS levels and that the county had previously set mileage at 72.5¢. “The IRS did change it,” one supervisor observed during the discussion, urging consideration of departmental needs for fuel and maintenance costs.
Supervisor Scott moved the adjustment and Supervisor Isaac seconded. In a roll call vote, Scott, Isaac and two other supervisors voted in favor; one opposed. Board members said they would permit departments to seek targeted amendments if necessary for heavy‑travel roles.
The board left the effective date on the motion at Aug. 1 to allow payroll and form changes. No additional budget appropriation was specified in the motion.
Next steps: staff will update payroll forms and notify county departments of the new rate.
